In 1924, two intrepid British climbers, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, disappeared shortly after being spotted when they were only 800 feet from the mountain's summit. Twenty-nine years later, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay followed in the footsteps of these two lost heroes.
